About Ray
Internet Marketing Authority, Web Consultant and SEO Master
I have an entire bio, but my experience and expertise are easy to present.
Having a degree in Computer Science and having started a company where I was a developer, consultant, trainer and assembled computers, gives me a unique skill set compared to others in my field.
Although I am a developer, I did not jump at the opportunity to learn HTML; I waited until there was a need. I worked for Mercury Interactive that was later purchased by HP as the top Application Monitoring 'expert' in the world. During that time of monitoring more than 300 websites for all the big name companies, I learned what made websites run slow, fail entirely or otherwise not work as expected.
I also found that I had the ability to spot a potential problem with a website or application in only a couple minutes.
You may have heard me speak about viewing websites from the perspective of the guy in the garage and that is what I did for BellSouth (before it was acquired by Cingular and later AT&T). My task was to monitor their website for a week, come back and review the results with their Technology Team in Duluth, GA. Since no one at the installation had time to work with me, I literally looked at the website to see what I would do if I were the guy in the garage, picked a couple processes and began monitoring. When I presented my information a week later, I asked the CIO why his site was down for 2.5 hours last Sunday and he said they were not aware there had been a problem.
I had only chosen 3 items off a web page with 50 or more things to do and found the one problem that they never knew about! Needless to say, millions of dollars later, they had a brand new, complete Web Monitoring and Software Testing suite.
On a smaller scale that likely matters more to you, I had the opportunity to look over a website that had a significant number of visitors and no sales. In 7 months, there were more than 122,000 visitors to a site that had 100+ items for sale, yet only 4 were buyers. It was obvious. Every image was too large, the left hand menu took 2 pages to display and a 'bug' caused the home page to be over 30 screens of blank space.
It is not always that easy to see the problem and doesn't have to cost a lot to fix, but take time to have me look over your site, because I know I can make it better than it was yesterday.
